Plean Precast’s casting shed in Stirlingshire, Scotland underwent a roof refurbishment by Weatherproofing Advisors after condensation and poor thermal efficiency were identified as key issues affecting the structure. A survey confirmed that the existing roof build-up was no longer performing as required and needed to be replaced with a long-term waterproofing solution.
As the casting shed remained operational throughout, planning around ongoing works was essential to minimise disruption. A secure scaffolding system was erected following a thorough assessment of roof access and its suitability for overlaying.
Completed refurbishment works on the roof included a galvanised bar/bracket system, upgraded thermal rating and metal profiled outer sheets. Disruptions to daily activities were kept to a minimum by clearly communicating with Plean Precast when works should occur, and progress was communicated back to site management and site staff. This project resolved the condensation and heating issues by delivering a durable, watertight and refurbished roof.
Weatherproofing Advisors were successfully appointed to refurbish a roof within an operating manufacturer shed in Stirlingshire.
Plean Precast consulted WPA to provide recommendations on the factory roof of one of their casting sheds which had existing, ongoing issues with condensation and inadequate thermal efficiency.
The original asbestos cement roof had been replaced by a metal profiled single-skin sheet, overlaid to a concrete frame structure. Due to the age and condition of the roof, WPA appointed a structural engineer to carry out an assessment of the building’s suitability for overlaying.
Our proposal to refurbish the roof included a galvanised bar/bracket system, thermal upgrade and new metal profiled outer sheets. Galvanised steel straps were installed to the concrete purlins internally to ensure the new roof complied with our engineer’s structural analysis.
The roof was fully refurbished including the installation of new gutters and rooflights retaining natural light on the building’s interior.
WPA provided Plean Precast with a 40-year warranty and Aftercare package, assuring the client safe access for ongoing maintenance requirements. A brand-new roof safety line system was installed along with external ladder access and a step-over unit between roof levels.
Critical to delivery of this project was continued communication of site operations within a live environment. Our site management, operatives and key supply chain worked closely with site staff to deliver the new roof with minimal disruption to daily activities.
