The North British Distillery in Addiewell underwent a roof refurbishment by Weatherproofing Advisors after the existing roof systems were identified as having been degraded. A survey confirmed that the existing dual roof build-up was aged and no longer performing as required and needed to be replaced with a long-term waterproofing solution.
As the two warehouses remained operational throughout, planning around ongoing works was essential to minimise disruption. A scaffolding system was erected following a thorough survey to ensure secure access and its suitability for refurbishment works.
Refurbishment works stripped the existing system on both roofs before replacement. Accompanying this is the installation of new gutters, ridge vents and access equipment. Disruptions to daily activities were kept to a minimum by working closely with North British Distillery Addiewell’s site staff.
Weatherproofing Advisors were successfully appointed to refurbish the roofs on Warehouses 10 & 12 at North British Distillery in Addiewell.
North British Distillery consulted Weatherproofing Advisors to provide recommendations on the roofs of Warehouses 10 & 12 at their Addiewell distillery.
On Warehouse 10, the existing asbestos cement roof had been overlaid by an aluminium profiled sheet. Warehouse 12 consisted of a twin-skin aluminium cladding system.
On both buildings, the existing roof systems were aged and degraded. Water ingress was occurring at several locations, posing a risk to stock and personnel inside each building.
Our proposal to refurbish the roofs included stripping the existing system, new purlin replacement where required, followed by the new installation of a new composite system.
Safe access was provided by internal tension safety netting, and external scaffolding with edge protection.
Both roofs were fully refurbished including the installation of new gutters, ridge vents and access equipment. A new safety line system was installed along with step-over units between roof levels, providing access for future roof maintenance.
Critical to the successful delivery of the project was communication of site operations within a live environment, at two separate buildings.
Our site management team, operatives and key supply chain worked closely with site staff to deliver the new roof with minimal disruption to daily activities.
