Project Overview
The Tesco Kilmarnock roof refurbishment tackled significant water ingress issues caused by the aging roof structure. Weatherproofing Advisors conducted a thorough survey, revealing that the existing felt roof had reached the end of its lifespan. The team overcame challenges like working in a busy, operational supermarket to deliver a durable solution using a PVC single-ply roofing system, ensuring the roof remained watertight for at least 25 years.
The project was completed in well-organized stages. Safety was a top priority, with scaffolding and secure site access set up first. Old, redundant ventilation units were removed, and anti-slip walkways were added to enhance long-term maintenance safety. Despite the complexities of working in a live retail environment, the project was completed smoothly, earning high praise for its quality and on-site management.
Weatherproofing Advisors were successfully appointed to refurbish the flat roof at Tesco Kilmarnock
As part of Tesco’s commitment to improving the experience of their customers, Weatherproofing Advisors were commissioned to survey the roof and provide a detailed report of its condition and reasons behind the water ingress.
Following our detailed survey, it was determined that the existing felt had reached the “end of life” stage.
Weatherproofing Advisors provided a solution that would eliminate the water ingress and would be guaranteed for a period of no less than 25 years.
In the main field areas, a PVC single-ply system was installed over the existing covering.
The solution was geared towards addressing the water ingress issues with minimum disruption to ongoing operations within the building.
The first stage of the project involved the installation of external scaffolding and roof edge protection. All access points were fully hoarded and secured, in order to prevent unauthorised access.
Working closely with the client, a secure site compound was established adjacent to the store.
The new Armourplan PVC single-ply system was installed to all areas of flat roofing, to incorporate gutters, upstands and detailing. Redundant fan and ventilation units were boxed off to a height of 1200mm, in accordance with Tesco’s safety policy.
To ensure clear access for ongoing maintenance, a red liquid applied anti-slip walkway was incorporated onto the waterproofing coverings.
The finished project resulted in a watertight roof with an improved safety regime.
The client expressed satisfaction with the site management and quality of workmanship, despite the work being executed in a busy live supermarket environment, adjacent to neighbouring retail units.
Moreover, the roofing solution comes backed by a 20 year warranty, a testament to its quality and reliability.
