Our most recent project showcases an innovative transformation from an outdated asbestos roof to a modern, energy-efficient, metal-profiled roof with an integrated solar Photovoltaic (PV) system. This conversion was made possible through an “overcladding” process, a method that maintains the existing roof while providing all the benefits of a complete replacement.
The overcladding process, wherein we installed the new metal profiled roof atop the existing asbestos one, was undertaken by our team of trained professionals. This allowed for minimal disruption to building occupants, while also eliminating the health risks associated with asbestos removal. The old roof was safely encapsulated, ensuring the building’s improved safety and environmental standards.

The Problem
In conjunction with contract administrators, Weatherproofing Advisors engaged with the Client to establish ongoing water ingress issues. The main workshop roof consisted of aged asbestos cement profiled sheets with several attempts of patch repairs over the years. Given the fragility and age of the roof, access was problematic and WPA utilised its commercial Drone license to provide a full photographic roof survey condition report. The adjacent flat roof office building and metal profiled wash bay were also considered for long-term maintenance proposals.
Given the nature of internal business operations and general activity on site, Weatherproofing Advisors ensured the most practical solution for long-term maintenance was considered, allowing the business to fully function during the refurbishment process.
The Solution
A roof oversheet was considered the most effective solution for the business and the Client took advantage of upgrading new roof ventilation systems and installation of PV panels to improve the energy efficiency of the building. WPA engaged with the key contractors involved in the refurbishment works with the ongoing interface between the various works carried out on site. WPA provided advice for ongoing maintenance requirements and a new permanent edge guardrail was installed by WPA to the perimeter of the building.
A new bituminous felt system was installed on the office roof and a metal profiled roof oversheet to the wash bay provided further long-term guarantees for the site.
Before
After
The new metal-profiled roof brought a sleek, contemporary aesthetic to the building, and more importantly, it enhanced the building’s energy efficiency. Known for its excellent insulation properties, this type of roof helps in minimizing the building’s heating and cooling costs. Moreover, the integration of a solar PV system empowers the building to generate a significant portion of its own energy, further reducing its carbon footprint and operational costs.
To safeguard our team during the installation and ensure future maintenance safety, we also installed new edge protection around the roof’s perimeter.
