Project Description
Weatherproofing Advisors were successfully appointed to refurbish the roof at Virgin Media’s Datacentre in Cowcaddens, Glasgow. This datacentre is a pivotal hub for Virgin Media, serving the Glasgow area. The existing asbestos cement roof was exhibiting significant degradation and failure, typical of a building of its age and type, leading to water ingress and posing risks to both personnel and valuable equipment below.
Weatherproofing Advisors were successfully appointed to refurbish the roof at Virgin Media’s Datacentre in Cowcaddens, Glasgow.
Virgin Media’s Cowcaddens premises is a key Datacentre hub which services Glasgow. The existing asbestos cement roof was showing the typical signs of degradation and failure associated with a building of this age and type.
Due to the breakdown of various roofing components, water ingress was occurring into the areas below, presenting a risk to people and valuable equipment. WPA conducted a comprehensive survey of the roof, utilising our qualified drone pilot. In conjunction with our structural engineer, we compiled a detailed condition report and site-specific specification aimed at addressing the issues identified.
This solution was geared towards addressing the water ingress issues with the minimum disruption to ongoing operations within the building.
The first stage of the project involved the installation of additional internal steelwork, as per the recommendations of the structural engineer’s report. This was followed by scaffolding, roof edge protection, sacrificial safety netting , in order to provide a safe working area.
A new bar and bracket system was installed, followed by an insulated plastisol coated steel cladding system incorporating new gutters and flashings. The finished project resulted in a watertight roof with improved energy efficiency.
The client expressed satisfaction with the site management and quality of workmanship, despite the works being executed in a busy city centre environment and sensitive building. Moreover, the roofing solution comes with a guarantee of 20 years, a testament to its quality and reliability. This guarantee is further supported by our comprehensive AfterCare programme, ensuring that the roof remains in optimal condition for its entire guaranteed lifespan.
