Tesco Express in Perth recently underwent a major roofing upgrade delivered by Weatherproofing Advisors, as part of Tesco’s ongoing programme to improve and maintain its store estate. Following a condition survey, the existing RAAC plank roof was identified as nearing the end of its service life and in need of full replacement.
Working on a design and build basis, our team carefully removed the old roof and installed a new composite deck system, finished with an Armourplan single-ply membrane to ensure a watertight finish. A red anti-slip walkway was also integrated into the design to allow for safe access during future maintenance.
The store remained open throughout the works, so keeping disruption to a minimum was key. We managed every stage of the project, including temporary welfare facilities, coordination of subcontractors for refrigeration and lighting works, and the installation of new safety systems. The result is a safer, more durable roof that will serve the building for years to come, complete with a 20-year warranty.
Weatherproofing Advisors were successfully appointed to replace the aging roof at Tesco Express in Perth with a safer new system with minimal store disruption.
As part of Tesco’s commitment to improving properties across its estate, it has an ongoing property survey and assessment programme to identify, assess, and make safe any building products nearing the end of their service life. This ensures potential risks to customers, colleagues, or others are addressed while smooth retail operations are upheld.
At Tesco Express in Perth, it was decided that the existing RAAC plank roofing system, nearing the end of its service life, would be removed and replaced with a new system on the existing steel structure.
Commissioned to carry out the re-roofing on a “design and build” basis, Weatherproofing Advisors worked closely with structural engineers to provide a solution that removed the fragility of the roof, eliminated water ingress, and delivered a 20-year warranty.
The store was to remain operational throughout the works, so disruption had to be kept to a minimum.
The project began with internal crash deck scaffolding, followed by external access and edge protection. Entry points were secured, and a compound was set up in the rear car park with the client.
RAAC roof panels were removed and replaced with composite decking and an Armourplan single-ply membrane.
Weatherproofing Advisors managed subcontractors for refrigeration strip-out, lighting upgrades, structural changes, and permanent safety installations. Temporary welfare and meeting spaces were established where needed.
A red anti-slip walkway was built into the waterproofing system for safe future access.
The result was a watertight, safer roof delivered with minimal disruption in a live store which includes a supporting 20-year warranty.
