The wall cladding to the former Do it All Store was severely deteriorated. The paint surface was peeling off in many areas and the underlying sheet had started to corrode. There was also extensive impact damage to the sheets and flashings, particularly on the door access elevations.
The client wanted to re-brand the property and was considering repainting the wall cladding as his preferred option. The works had to be carried out during the winter months and the client had a three week window for the works to be completed.
Delivering Service the Weatherproofing way
Measured – Managed – Monitored
It was not possible to guarantee that the works could be carried out within the three week programme, particularly in view of the inclement weather conditions. Closer analysis of the wall cladding panels revealed more surface damage and severe rusting particularly around the cill areas. A repainting exercise could not deliver the quality of finish brief that the client required.
Weatherproofing Advisors proposed overcladding the walls with a single skin plastisol coated steel wall panel incorporating new flashings, cills and trims.
The overcladding was carried out despite low temperatures and heavy rainfall. The wall cladding refurbishment works were completed in 2 weeks well within the programme. The works were carried out off mobile elevated work platforms negating the need for any scaffolding thus allowing other trades to carry out their works. The new wall cladding carried a 25 year manufacturers guarantee compared to the 10 year guarantee for the paint system and gave the new Homebase Store the standard of finish the client required. The cost difference between the overcladding option and painting was negligible.
